Interactive Oral Assessments Workshop Series

Course description

This event will build on activities in the earlier workshop series to enhance assessment design at Flinders.

About the Presenter

Danielle Logan-Fleming is a Senior Advisor for Learning and Teaching at Torrens University and an Adjunct Fellow for Learning and Teaching at Griffith University. Dani is a recognised leader in assessment innovation who pioneered the development of Interactive Oral (IO) assessments. This model has since been adopted globally as a way to enhance student learning, demonstrate graduate capabilities, and maintain academic integrity. With a background in communication and education, her work focuses on creating assessment approaches that are authentic, engaging, and aligned with professional practice. She has led institution-wide assessment reforms and regularly works with universities across Australia and internationally to guide the design and delivery of Interactive Oral assessments.

Event 1: Assuring Learning with Authentic Assessments: Interactive Orals as a Comprehensive Solution (webinar)

Interactive Oral (IO) assessments are transforming the way universities assure learning. By placing students in authentic, real-time conversations, IOs move beyond rehearsed or written responses to reveal how knowledge is applied, communicated, and defended in context. This approach is flexible across disciplines and delivery modes and is increasingly recognised worldwide for strengthening engagement, employability, and academic integrity.

This Flinders University workshop will introduce the principles behind IOs, share practical design and delivery strategies, and showcase examples of successful implementation. Participants will gain clear insights and resources to adapt this model to their own teaching and assessment contexts.

Event 2: Interactive Orals as a Comprehensive Solution - Getting Started (workshop -  IN-PERSON and ONLINE availabilities)

This workshop will follow-on directly from Event 1 exploring the practicalities of getting started using interactive oral assessments. It will be a hands-on event using your own assessment and attendance at Event 1 is required. You will also need to have completed the IO Design Template (or as much of it as you can) prior to the workshop. This was sent to you with the workshop 1 PowerPoint.

Due to venue limitations, in-person places are limited to 40. As such, if you are planning to attend online, please ensure you enrol into the ONLINE version so you can join us via Teams on the day.
