Quantifying qualitative data from surveys and mixed methods approaches to its analysis

Course description

While qualitative data collected through surveys’ open-ended responses offer rich contextual insights, their integration into quantitative and mixed methods research designs presents methodological challenges. This course is aimed at introducing various strategies for integrating qualitative and quantitative data from surveys. Participants will engage with established and emerging techniques for coding and categorising textual data. Approaches to augment and filter qualitative data by quantitative variables will be shown, followed by presenting how qualitative findings can be transformed and aligned with quantitative data. Leading mixed methods software called MAXQDA will be introduced, with licensing options discussed during the course.

The details of the connection to the Web Conference will be emailed to enrolled participants a day before the course and again an hour before the event. Please contact stats.consultant@flinders.edu.au if you have any questions relating to this course.
