Capability Model Discussion

Course description

People and Culture is currently developing a capability model to support the delivery of our strategic ambitions and Agenda 2035. 

A capability model is a framework that defines the skills, behaviours, mindsets, and leadership practices that enable individuals and teams to thrive and achieve organisational goals. More than simply identifying what we do, it helps clarify how we work together, lead others, embrace change, and create positive impact. A well-designed capability model provides a shared language for success, supporting recruitment, development, career growth, performance conversations, and leadership development across the University.

As we look towards Agenda 2035, the capability model will help ensure we are building the culture and capabilities needed for the future. It will identify the behaviours and ways of working that will enable us to be innovative, collaborative, adaptable, and student-focused, while supporting our people to reach their full potential.

To ensure the model reflects the diverse needs, experiences, and contexts across the University, People & Culture has been meeting with leadership teams and are inviting staff to join the discussion. These sessions will focus on what leadership may need to look like in the future, the capabilities required to meet emerging challenges and opportunities, and how we can best support our people to succeed in an evolving environment.

The insights gathered through these conversations will play an important role in shaping a capability framework that is practical, relevant, and aligned with our strategic direction. This is an opportunity for staff to help define the behaviours, values, and ways of working that will support our collective success in the years ahead.
