DECRA Development Workshop - New Applications

Are you planning to apply for an ARC DECRA?

This workshop will allow you to present a summary of your case for a DECRA application, to receive feedback on the strength of your case against the criteria and to listen to, and participate in, the feedback provided to others. Written Tip Sheets will be provided as pre-reading and these will assist you with the preparation and revision of your draft application.

Experienced research leaders from Research Coaching Australia, Professor Janet Verbyla and Professor Gary Dowsett, will provide you with a summary of what is needed for a successful DECRA application, some “make or break” things to watch out for, and will provide feedback on your summary presentation. The workshop will be around 2 hours in duration, depending on how long the individual feedback sessions take. This should provide sufficient time to discuss all applicant cases. 

To provide a peer-based review opportunity, you will be asked to:

• prepare a one-page summary (max) of your application against the DECRA criteria to set out your assessment of the strength of your case against the criteria
• present a 3-minute summary of your case to the group at the workshop
• participate in the group feedback on others' presentations and strength of case against the criteria.

Research Coaching Australia will provide you with a template against which you can write your one-page summary.

This session will be run via online via MS Teams. A link will be sent to you via calendar invitation prior to the session.

COACHING OPPORTUNITY:

Six DECRA applicants will be offered personalised one-on-one coaching sessions with one of the experienced research leaders from RCA. This will be a special opportunity for you to further strengthen your application. Researchers will be selected by the RCA research leaders and the Deans (Research) from the Colleges based on the summary of your application that will be the focus of this workshop.
