Let's Talk Gender Awareness

Course description

The aim of the session is to provide participants with an overall understanding of gender as a space, rather than a binary, and explore binary and non-binary gender experiences and identities as part of the LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer) spectrum.

The session also aims to provide training for people to become part of the visible presence of Allies on campus.  This goes some way in creating a safer and more welcoming environment for both new and current members of the Flinders community who do not identify as heterosexual by:

  • Proactively addressing prejudicial behaviours and language
  • Providing a safe place for people to talk about issues related to sexuality and/or gender identity
  • Educating people about issues related to sexuality and/or gender identity

Ashleigh Sternes is a Program Manager with Pride in Diversity, and comes to Flinders to deliver this training as part of the University's membership with Pride in Diversity.  Pride in Diversity is Australia's first and only not-for-profit employer support program specifically designed to assist employers with all aspects of LGBTIQ inclusion.
