Remote First Aid

Course description

This 3 day course addresses the requirement that field trips to remote locations must have a person that has this qualification. You will be expected to attend all three days.


The College of Science and Engineering will pay for half of the course where there is an obvious link to the teaching or research programs for the College provided the area /lab/ research group covers the balance for each participant.

Due to the limited number of courses available should you find that the current course is full then please register your interest by adding your name to the waiting list.

Please forward an email to CSE.WHS@flinders.edu.au  from your supervisor that confirms your funding arrangements. The final total price is expected to be approximately $300 per participant.

Please note this is a three day course and you will be expected to complete all three days.

For a remote field trip just one person needs to have the training. See the following extract from the field trip guideline. “When the field trip is in an area where Emergency Services may be delayed or it would be difficult to access help (e.g. remote or difficult to access sites), a Remote First Aid kit must be carried and a member of the field trip group must have Remote First Aid Training or access to such a person must be available.”

Who should attend

Field trip leaders and participants who intend to do remote field trips.

What you will learn

This 3 day course is suitable for individuals whose work takes them to isolated areas; and equips them with the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate and prolonged first aid for an injured/ ill casualty, whilst awaiting medical assistance. 

Successful completion of this course leads to a statement of attainment for the following units of competence: HLTAID001 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation; HLTAID002 - Provide basic emergency life support; HLTAID003 - Provide first aid; HLTAID005 - Provide first aid in remote situations.

Prerequisites / assumed knowledge

You must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Existing Flinders students will have one of these already but you must be able to supply it to the course provider.
