Course description
Generating public impact from your research is increasingly important, and effective media engagement can play a valuable role in building visibility, reputation and reach.
In this introductory session, the Flinders media team will provide practical insights into how the media works, what makes research newsworthy, and how researchers can communicate their work clearly and confidently to broader audiences.
Participants will explore how to identify and tell research stories, translate complex ideas into powerful messages, and prepare for media opportunities including interviews, media releases and public commentary.
The session will also highlight how the Flinders media team can support researchers to build their profile and make the most of strategic media opportunities.
The session will cover:
- how the media works and what journalists look for
- identifying what is newsworthy about your research
- telling research stories in a simple and engaging way
- creating storytelling for maximum impact
- preparing for media interviews and public commentary
- using images and video to tell your stories
- working effectively with the Flinders media team.
