Publishing with Nature: An Editor's Perspective

Course description

Join Marian Turner, Senior Editor at Nature Ecology & Evolution, for a conversation about publishing in Nature journals, tailored specifically for Flinders researchers.  

Drawing on her experience as an editor, Marian will share insights into how editorial decisions are made, what happens during submission and peer review, how researchers can approach journal selection, and the open access options available through Nature.  

This session is designed as a practical overview, with an opportunity for Flinders researchers to ask questions during the Q&A. 

Marian is a senior editor with Nature Ecology & Evolution, based in Melbourne. She graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) in 2004. She gained a PhD in immunology from the University of Melbourne, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the LMU Munich before beginning her editorial career as a News & Views editor for Nature in London from 2012. In 2016, she joined the editorial team to launch Nature Ecology & Evolution, and moved back to Melbourne in 2018. She handles papers across a broad range of topics, with a focus on conservation and global change, and also coordinates the journal’s review and opinion content.
