PhD Industry-Ready Internship Scholarships - Information Session

Course description

The PhD Industry Ready Internship Scholarship (PIRIS) at Flinders University will be available for all newly established, eligible PhD internship agreements executed from 1 January 2026, excluding those supported by a PhD scholarship that includes an embedded internship.

The purpose of the PhD Industry Ready Internship Scholarship is to facilitate PhD students to carry out an eligible research internship during their PhD enrolment, in collaboration with an eligible research end-user (industry partner) and under the supervision of their Principal Supervisor. With over half of PhD graduates gaining employment in organisations beyond academia, it is critical that research degrees prepare students to succeed in both academic and industry environments. This Flinders University initiative will support PhD students to complete an industry internship, to understand the industry context, and develop transferable skills including research communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, and project management.

This information session for HDR students and supervisors will cover:

• Eligibility requirements – who can apply and key conditions
• Internship criteria – what counts as an eligible research internship
• Scholarship benefits – stipend details and possible extension of existing scholarships
• Application process and timelines – how and when to apply
• Responsibilities and expectations – for students, supervisors, and industry partners
