Sustainability Policy Impact Masterclass

Course description

Join us and our invited guests to learn more about the development of sustainability policy and to understand how you can use your research expertise to influence policy development. This session will focus on sustainability research, while providing information relevant to researchers from all disciplines.

We have four exciting keynote speakers for this masterclass:

  • Deputy Premier and Minister for the Environment Susan Close will explore why policy matters.
  • Senator Andrew MacLachlan will discuss how you can influence policy development.
  • Tim O'Loughlin, former CEO of the Department of Transport and Urban Development and Commissioner for Renewable Energy, will draw on his experience in government to illustrate issues in policy development.
  • Dr Joe Milton from Australian Science Media Centre will give you tips on communicating your research for policymakers.

Several academics from Flinders University will present case studies from their own experiences with influencing policy. These speakers include Professor Sarah WheelerBrendan Grigg (College of Business, Government and Law), Professor Beverley Clarke (College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences), Professor Corey Bradshaw (College of Science and Engineering), and Professor Tracey Wade (College of Education, Psychology and Social Work).

You will have an opportunity throughout the workshop to ask questions of our speakers.
