As the current winner of the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in HDR Supervision, Dr Melanie Takarangi, College of Education, Psychology & Social Work, will present a one-hour seminar on developing and sustaining successful collaborative relationships between HDR supervisors and students.
HDR supervisors are responsible for developing not just competent students, but knowledgeable and compassionate scientists, colleagues, and citizens. Dr Takarangi’s supervisory philosophy is based on the principles that underpin a successful working alliance: creating a strong interpersonal connection with students both individually and as part of a cohesive group; facilitating students’ professional development within an apprenticeship model by engaging them as collaborators, equipping them with transferable skills, and encouraging professional opportunities; and helping students develop productive and efficient strategies to navigate their candidature, by providing them with direction, support, resources and timely, high-quality feedback.
This workshop is available to external participants via live-stream. Please enrol in the workshop as an external participant, and you will be contacted with further information.
