Advanced: Scale Development

Course description

This course aims to introduce various aspects of scale development starting with the importance of conceptually establishing the construct to be measured, generation of the item pool and its incorporation into questionnaire design, then working through different approaches to reliability and validity assessment. The workshop will also include a brief introduction to the rating scale models within the Item Response Theory.

The course is aimed to be practically oriented with extensive use of the IBM SPSS and Stata statistical packages.

  • How to assess factorial validity by using Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis

Prerequisites / assumed knowledge

Preferably participants should attend Introduction to SPSSIntroduction to StataIntroduction to Statistical AnalysisIntermediate: Understanding Your Data and Checking Assumptions, Intermediate: Correlation and Intermediate: Multiple Regression (or have an understanding of concepts/skills covered in the listed above courses) before enrolling in this workshop.
