IBM SPSS - Advanced: Scale Development

Course description

This course aims to introduce various aspects of scale development starting with the importance of conceptual establishing of the construct to be measured, generation of the item pool and its incorporation into questionnaire design, then working through  different approaches to reliability and validity assessment. The workshop will also include a brief introduction to the rating scale models within the Item Response Theory.

  • How to create an item pool
  • Different concepts of reliability and validity
  • How to asses internal consistency of the scale
  • How to asses factorial validity by using Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis
  • Brief introduction to rating scale models within the Item Response Theory
  • Use of SPSS syntax

Prerequisites / assumed knowledge

Preferably participants should attend Introduction to SPSS, Intermediate SPSS: Understanding Your Data and Checking Assumptions and IBM SPSS - Intermediate: Correlation and Multiple Regression (or have an understanding of concepts/skills covered in those two introductory courses) before enrolling in this workshop.
