An exciting program of activities (from April 2022 to July 2023) is being developed and will be announced shortly.

Please see the upcoming events below for more information about workshop 1 and how to register.

Visit the CMPH Learning & Teaching Academy website to find out more about who we are and to sign up as a member.

We hope you enjoy this Researching Learning and Teaching initiative,
Warm regards, the CMPH T&L Academy leadership team.

The aim of the Academy is to inform, inspire, and enrich CMPH educators within a learning and teaching culture of courage, creativity, and collaboration.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Workshop - Mapping Research Methods to Research Questions

Facilitated by Prideaux Researchers, Dr Koshila Kumar and Dr Leila Morsy, this will be an interactive session where we take research questions (contributed by you!) and align research methods to these questions. If you are planning on attending this workshop, you will need to bring along your research question and initial ideas of research methods and be prepared to share/discuss this at the workshop.

Prepare for this workshop, by:

  1. Formulating your educational research question. If you want some support to refine your question, please email us at prideauxcentre@flinders.edu.au to organise a time to chat with the team
  2. Identifying the methods that align with your question. The two articles below (and attached) introduce qualitative and quantitative research in health professions education. Please read at least one:
  • Tai, J. & Ajjawi, R. (2016). Undertaking and reporting qualitative research. The Clinical Teacher, 13(3), pp. 175-182.
  • Norman, G., & Eva, K. W. (2013). Quantitative research methods in medical education. In Understanding Medical Education. Wiley Blackwell.

Researching teaching and learning – getting started

Those of us who are involved in education often have questions about our teaching and learning practices. For example, how do students learn in a particular context? How do they put knowledge into practice? What are the impacts of specific teaching or assessment approaches?

Asking and seeking to answer such questions forms the basis of what we refer to as the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). SoTL can take many different forms and includes undertaking research in education. In this workshop, we provide a practical introduction to educational research within a health context. This interactive session will also feature a panel discussion with members of the CMPH community who are currently undertaking (or have recently undertaken) educational research in different teaching programs and contexts.

Facilitated by Dr Svetlana King, Dr Koshila Kumar and Dr Nicola Parkin

    When: Friday, 8th April 9:30am – 12:30pm
