Course description

Part 1. Preparing for Negotiation

Would you like to develop or enhance your ability to negotiate for what you need?  If so, then this workshop is for you. You will gain an awareness of your preferred negotiating style and be able to assess whether or not it is serving you well. You will also learn about how to prepare effectively for a negotiation. This will include how to identify all relevant stakeholders, determine their needs and interests, brainstorm options and assess the alternatives.


Part 2. Negotiation Skills

This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to practice some of the skills necessary for effective negotiation, including how to open a negotiation, how to deal with objections or difficult behaviour and how to avoid defensiveness or aggression. It will have a strong practical component.

Part 1.
You will:

  • gain awareness of your preferred negotiating style
  • learn how to identify your interests and needs as well as those of all other stakeholders involved in the negotiation process
  • learn how to creatively brainstorm options that can meet all needs and interests
  • learn how to assess the alternatives to a negotiated agreement and how this impacts on the negotiation process.
