This course will outline the importance of, and the techniques for using lasers safely.  This is for general laser safety concepts and where specific training is required for lasers, this must be obtained form the manufacturer of the laser.

This topic will discuss:

  • Types of Lasers
  • Laser Specifications
  • Laser Hazards
  • Laser Control Measures

These topics are intended to increase awareness of laser hazards and risks and safety measures that must be taken to ensure safety of laser users and those that work around them.

Who should attend

Mandatory: Class 3 or 4 laser equipment users.  This includes staff, postgraduate and honours students who use powerful lasers in scientific experiments, surveying, alignments etc.

Recommended: While not mandatory for users outside of the Class 3 or 4 laser classifications, this general laser safety awareness course can be taken by any laser user.
