Foundations of Inclusive Leadership

Course description

While most leaders have an intellectual understanding of the benefits of diversity and inclusion, many lack clarity about what inclusive leadership looks like day-to-day.

Flinders University is a culturally diverse community which recognises that each student and staff member brings their own unique capabilities, experiences and characteristics.  Diversity and Inclusion are core to our organisational culture and values, and aims to provide an environment which is creative, innovative, flexible and productive.

This workshop provides leaders with the foundational knowledge and skills required to bring out the best in diverse individuals and teams, whether in the context of meeting processes, project allocation or recognition and reward.

What you will learn

This workshop will equip participants with:

  • an increased understanding of how people develop rapport and trust more quickly with people who are most like us, and how this can lead to bias in our perceptions, relationships and decision-making.
  • the ability to recognise when bias may be at play in team dynamics, and implement safeguards to minimise its impact,
  • increased confidence in talking about, and modelling, inclusive practices,
  • the ability to cultivate inclusive behaviours in colleagues and team members.
