Embedding Indigenous Knowledges into the University Curricula

Course description

This workshop offers a comprehensive framework for integrating Indigenous knowledges into university curricula, drawing on Canadian experiences and practices. Participants will explore current challenges, such as systemic barriers and colonial biases, and engage in transformative stages to foster equity and respect for Indigenous perspectives. The stages include developing self-awareness to dismantle biases, building relationships with Indigenous Elders and communities, engaging with Indigenous literature and media, and applying knowledge ethically in curriculum design. Interactive elements, including live-polling and reflective activities, will deepen participants' commitment to honoring Indigenous voices. This framework provides academics with practical tools and insights to create more inclusive and culturally responsive educational environments.

These sessions forms part of the Flinders Learning and Teaching Academy’s activities. The workshops will include sharing of better practice nationally and internationally as well as presentations by academics and professional staff at Flinders. The workshops will also provide opportunities to identify areas for future work and projects and connect staff with networks, committees and Communities of practice already working in the area.
