Ally Training: The Active Ally

Course description

The aim of the session is to provide participants with an understanding of what it means to be an Ally, and the role that Allies play in influencing cultural change within our organisation.  We will explore the fluidity of terminology, some unique challenges faced by LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender, Intersex and Queer) people, the impact that an inclusive culture has on the lived experiences of LGBTIQ identifying people, and the role of Allies through identity development.  Providing Allies with the foundational knowledge, skills and experience needed to continue the conversation and become an effective Ally for LGBTIQ peers.

Andrew Georgiou is a Relationship Manager with Pride in Diversity, and comes to Flinders to deliver this training as part of the University's membership with Pride in Diversity.  Pride in Diversity is Australia's first and only not-for-profit employer support program specifically designed to assist employers with all aspects of LGBTIQ inclusion.
