This is a mandatory online course for all staff in a supervisory role. The course consists of two training modules:

Roles and Responsibilities of Supervisors:
This module explores the generic capabilities and responsibilities of supervisors in a range of areas including, but not limited to, understanding and guiding compliance within the University's policy and legislative framework, influencing workforce effectiveness, exercising duty of care, managing change, human resources matters, performance review and development, Workplace Health and Safety, equal opportunity and diversity.

Managing the Workplace Environment:
This module provides practical advice and information on key policy/procedures which underpin and inform the supervisor's role at Flinders University, with a particular focus on Performance Review. It provides participants with the opportunity to work through case study scenarios which involves putting policy into practice.

What you will learn

This training will provide you with

  • a comprehensive point of reference for policies and other information sources relevant to supervising staff at Flinders University
  • advice and guidance in operating effectively in your role
  • an opportunity to learn how to source appropriate information and supports
  • an introduction to the main staff systems.

Participants will also become familiar with Performance Management processes and review, and refresh their knowledge and skills base in areas including:

  • Position descriptions
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Induction/probation
  • Leave management
  • Grievance procedures
  • Discipline

Prerequisites / assumed knowledge

Familiarity with the Supervisor Reference Manual.
