Strategic Storytelling
Course description
This strategic storytelling masterclass is designed to complement the
adaptive leadership workshop also available in the 'Leads the Organisation' learning stream, while providing an
encapsulated opportunity to develop practical approaches to using storytelling
to create connection and trust and motivate purposeful action.
Strategic storytelling involves:
- Sharing individual, group, organisational and system wide
stories for the purpose of understanding and reflection, building connection
and trusted relationships and creating culture shift.
- The concept that people, groups and systems use stories to
create meaning and make sense of who they are and what matters to them. Stories
like, ‘the way we do things around here’ – are often not formalised but have a
powerful influence on the actions and interactions of individuals and groups in
organisations.
- Understanding and sharing your own stories and hearing the
stories of others and the organisation provides insight into values and
motivations – enabling individuals to better connect with themselves and others
and see the stories that may serve or derail.
- Understanding the broader narratives at play helps leaders
shape ‘new stories’ that align with values, vision and mission they are looking
to develop.
