Understanding and Using your Research Metrics

Course description

How do you know if your track record is good enough to be competitive for external grants? How can you be confident in applying for promotion in the next round, and how can you ensure you have a strong application for prizes and awards?

Presented by Josephine McGill from the Library, this session will look at ways that you can benchmark your career as well as show you the tools available to you to check that you are on track and help you stay on track. This session will cover: 

  • Responsible use of Metrics
  • Navigate and identify features of the databases SciVal and InCites
  • Identify peers and competitors that you can use to benchmark yourself against
  • Analyse a set of publications for useful metrics
  • Understand how these metrics can be used and when the metrics should be used with care.

This session will be run online via MS Teams. A link will be sent to you via calendar invitation prior to the session.
