Understanding and Using your Research Metrics

Course description

How do you interpret what your research metrics mean and how can you appropriately incorporate them into your grant or academic promotion application? How can you identify peers within your research field at a similar career stage for benchmarking or collaboration?

This session will look at ways that you can benchmark your career and demonstrate how to obtain bibliometric data for grant or academic promotion applications via the main tools available through the Flinders Library. This session will cover:

• metrics in context: how the most common metrics are calculated and what they can meaningfully signify
• how to find peers for benchmarking
• how to obtain your metrics via SciVal, Google Scholar and Overton
• tips for using metrics in your impact statement.
